I have talked about finding balance in nature, however today I want to share with you one man’s experience, I have changed his name, but he knows I am writing about him.
Tim and I met at a local networking group, where because what I do is a bit different I decided to offer a free mini experience for members to find out firsthand what I do.
This gentleman was an experienced networker and contributed well to the meetings, however I got the feeling of never really knowing the real him, just the mask he wanted us to see. Many people wear masks to hide behind for many reasons, often it is self-confidence or feeling they can’t let people in.
Whatever the reason was for with Tim, it meant it was hard to feel any sort of connection with him, and I deal with people I can feel some sort of connection with.
I was surprised one day when he spoke to me about taking up my offer for a free experience, many had but until then he hadn’t. I agreed and a date was arranged. When we met, he was still rather reserved, so I didn’t push I just took him on a route that I felt would help him the most.
For me, despite being a freebie, I still wanted him to get something beneficial out of it for himself as well as have a taster of what I do. His mask was still very much in place, so I carried on as I would do if he were a client and after a while we came upon a fallen tree which made it a great place to sit for a while.
I suggested a breathing exercise, which I hoped would help him relax a bit, he agreed to try them. I then started gently to get him to connect to the world around him. I soon began to see his usually tense shoulders relax, there was a look of peace on his face, the mask was slipping away.
As we set off again, I asked him how he was feeling and it was like taking the stopper out of a bottle. He began to talk about all sorts of aspects of his life which had affected him in a negative way.
As often happens, it was disjointed and jumped about to different periods in his life. Till finally he was silent. He then admitted he had told me stuff which he had never shared with anyone. But most importantly he felt better about it. At last, that mask was gone.
He asked me to book a few more sessions with me as a client, which I was glad to do. In a matter of a month or so he was a different, happier, more relaxed person.
It is seeing that transformation that gives me a real buzz. I always say, I have to charge because I have bills to pay, but my real reward is seeing that change, that is why I do what I do. Being able to help people connect to nature and gain the benefits is just the best job in the world.
So, if you would like to find out more about what I do or how I could help you or your staff connect to nature, please contact me nadine@naturegives.co.uk. and see how I can help.
