This is a point that doomists love to chant, complete with sandwich boards.
However, if you watched the fascinating documentary fronted by Sir David Attenborough concerning research done by Swedish environmental scientist Professor Johan Rockström's theory of what he calls “planetary boundaries”, you may well have formed a more positive view.

I recently watched it and I have to say that, although it was full of loads of scientific data which could have become very heavy, they divided it up into boundaries or bite-size chunks which meant it was much easier to understand. It is called 'The Science of our Planet', and it really is worth the watching. In fact, I am going to watch it again!  Briefly Professor Johan has looked at how we humans have harmed our planet, and have put ourselves on a path towards the 6th mass extinction. Now in the previous five event they were not caused by the most dominant species. They came under the category of “stuff happens”, they were acts of nature as it settled itself down.  Now after 10,000 years of a stable climate, we are as a species are living in a way that is not in balance or harmony with nature and if we continue like this, we will reach a point where we pass what the professor calls a tipping point. A point of no return, where mass extinction is inevitable, in all the passed extinction event whatever was the dominant species do not do well, just think about the dinosaurs.  The professor dives the world up into 9 different areas and then looks at each one in turn to discover when we pass from green, OK, into amber we need to start worrying, and finally into red and we have passed the tipping point in that section.

He looks at what we are doing and what we need to do to reverse this. Yes, there is good news in all this, we can change how we live and thus reverse the situation. However, we need to act now as we are very close to or in the amber areas of some of the nine sections. Part of what we have lost, and this all started going wrong as a result of the Industrial Revolution, and ha sped up since the second world war. I will cover this decline in next month’s blog, but it is our connectivity, or lack of, to nature. This is why we at Nature Gives are so keen to help people reconnect and start their journey towards walking softly upon this earth.

You only have to look around at the increased number of freak weather conditions around the world, wildfires, number of species now extinct to see how we are damaging the world around us.

We are still in the early part of this new year, and it is my hope and aim to reach as many people as possible and help them on their journey. To achieve this, we know that any journey is a series of steps and our first was setting up this business, with its various public speaking services.

Our next step is the creation of our free to join, “Friends of the Ash Tree Group,” its monthly newsletter will give members hints and tips on how to help themselves, nature and the planet.

We have some big plans which will take longer to achieve, and details of this will be release soon. For those who are members of the group they will get updates first and be kept informed of our progress, so if you haven’t joined yet, send me an email requesting to join. I am looking forward to welcoming you, and helping you to,
Walk Softly Upon This Earth!
In the meantime,
Bye for now ...and start connecting!
