Can anyone do Shinrin Yoku?
Yes anyone can do Shinrin Yoku, the only limit is finding a suitable area of woodland. For anyone with mobility issues I also have a Shinrin room that can be used.
Can Shinrin Yoku really help with all the health issues listed?
Yes, in Japan it has been used for a long time not just to heal but to be preventative as well. There has been a large amount of research worldwide which confirms this.
How long does each session last?
Each session usually lasts about 90 minutes; however, it can be shorter or longer depending on people’s personal needs.
How many sessions does it take to be able to do it by yourself?
Usually, two or three sessions will mean you can go out by yourself and start getting benefits of relaxing and some improvement in your health. However, if you are looking at dealing with more than general connectivity, perhaps dealing with specific problems, then having an experienced and knowledgeable guide will increase the likelihood of success.
Can I get Shinrin Yoku sessions under the Social Prescribing scheme?
Yes, you can and speaking to your doctor should enable you to be put in contact with someone.
Is the cost of Shinrin Yoku sessions covered by the Social prescribing?
Yes, they should be, nature therapy is now considered beneficial.
Is any special equipment needed to do Shinrin Yoku?
The short answer is no, however, you will need to dress according to the weather and good walking boots are advised as paths can get wet/muddy.
Are visits to schools really free?
Yes, they are the costs are covered by grants and sponsorship of local businesses under their community involvement.
What age groups are covered by the Nature Connectivity visits in schools?
There are special sessions for years 1 & 2 which introduce nature and are designed to inspire a love of nature. Also, baby steps into wellness using nature. Then there are units to follow on through KS2 where the pupils learn about nature and the life skills associated with it.
How long are the sessions in schools?
KS1 sessions last approximately 30 mins. KS2 sessions are half day visits. So, in one day a KS1 class, and two KS2 classes can enjoy discovering nature.
What areas of nature are covered in the visits?
KS1 pupils will meet a woodland character and learn a bit about them and some other animals they will meet.
KS2 pupils will cover a wider range of aspects of nature, which will not only helps them connect to nature, be inspired by it but also, link with their nature studies.
